About the Child Development Centre
In collaboration with families and community members, the Child Development Centre provides early supports and services to Yukon children from birth to school age, particularly those whose needs are special.
We believe that:
- families are most important to children, and that we are more effective when we work in partnership with the family;
- the growth and development of young children is enhanced by providing children with supports and services as early as possible; and
- by working in partnership with other community members we can build a better community for children and families.
The Child Development Centre provides these services to children, birth to school age:
- assessment and follow-up of a child’s development;
- an integrated therapeutic preschool program;
- home-based programs\
- regular visits to rural Yukon communities;
- education and support groups for parents and caregivers; and
- resource materials for parents and community members.
Staff at the Child Development Centre are professionals who specialize in the areas of speech and language, play, social and emotional development, and fine and gross motor skills.
