1979

·        November 16, 1979 – Child Development Constitution signed

·        Founding member recalls having bake sales to make payroll

 

1980

·        May 4, 1980 – Telethon for Child Development Centre

 

1981

·        Two new speech and language pathologists hired

 

1983

·        New roof for Child Development Centre at Selkirk School    location

·        Work at Child Development Centre divided into: infant, toddler, and preschool programs. Some services offered to school age children.

 

1984

·        Fred Penner concert organized to raise money for Child Development Centre

·        Kindergarten program

·        Rural community families travel to Whitehorse for services

·        Services provided to 27 children

 

1985

·        Parent and Tot group started

·        May 1985 – Open house

·        New addition to building

·        Services provided to 60 children

 

1986

·        Parent Support group started

·        Services provided to 71 children

 

1988

·        75 new referrals

 

1989

·        Moved from Selkirk School trailer to the 1000 Lewes Blvd. (present location)

·        Three integrated preschool programs begin – focus on 2, 3, and 4 year olds

·        Funds received from Yukon Territorial Government to initiate an outreach program to rural communities – Outreach coordinator hired

·        New playground sponsored by McDonalds

 

1990

·        Outreach program team begins traveling to Carmacks, Faro, Ross River, Pelly Crossing, and Dawson City

·        Trans-disciplinary team approach begins

·        Intake worker hired

 

1991

·        Special needs consultant hired to work with child care programs for one year term

·        Restructuring of management team

·        Staff liaison committee set up

·        Physiotherapists begin to make orthotics

·        Child Development Centre unionized

·        91 new referrals; 60 to outreach program – total enrollment 216 children

 

1992

·        An evaluation of the Outreach program commissioned due to existing problems (Lewis, Hunt, & Edmunds 1992)

·        Outreach program coordinator, speech and language pathologist, and occupational therapist hired – expanded services to include 10 rural communities

·        November 1992 – Open house

·        First Collective Agreement ratified

·        Eric’s room created in memory of Eric Dacko-Brink

·        Provided services to 219 children

 

1993

·        Outreach program expands to provide services to 11 rural communities – program assistant model developed

·        Piloted Hanen Parent Program

·        First program assistant hired in the community of Ross River

 

1994

·        Dawson City residents in collaboration with Child Development Centre access funds from Community Action Program for Children (CAP-C) to hire full-time program assistant and set up satellite office in Dawson City

·        First speech and language therapy group

·        Program Assistant hired in Watson Lake

·        Library materials re-catalogued

·        Child Development Centre renovations – main office moved

·        Participated in Elvis Stojko skating Television special

 

1995

·        First strategic plan was created

·        Satellite office in Kwanlin Dunn opens – Follow along program begins  

·        CAPC funding provides services for Kwanlin Dunn office, and Dawson City office, and program assistants

·        Services provided to 290 children

1996

·        Satellite office in Watson Lake opens

·        Follow along program extends to Whitehorse Community-based programs and rural communities

·        Acquired internet and email address

·        Services provided to 306 children

 

1997

·        Child Development Centre establishes toy lending library as part of satellite office in Dawson City

·        8 program assistants hired to work in rural communities

·        Outreach travel is shared by more staff

·        Services provided to 412 children

 

1998

·        New toll free number

·        Divided staff into 2 teams – both participate in Outreach travel

·        Services provided to 474 children

 

1999

·        Regular trips to old Crow begin

·        November 19, 1999 – 20th Birthday Party

·        Funding received to expand Outreach services

·        Child Development Centre therapeutic preschool program licensed

·        Waitlist protocol developed

·        New logo developed

·        Begin Outreach travel to Beaver Creek and Burwash Landing

·        New Outreach vehicle purchased

2000

·        An additional speech and language pathologist hired to meet waitlists and Outreach needs

·        Money received from Crime Prevention funds to run Positive Guidance Group

2001

·        New construction in playground – sponsored by McDonalds

·        First kindergarten readiness group

·        Child Development Centre office in Kwanlin Dunn moved to Ashea Head Start Program building

·        Begin providing services to K-4 programs in rural communities

·        Services provided to 479 children

2002

·        Funding received for Hanen training for early childhood educators

·        Telehealth used to deliver workshops to communities

·        Public Relations Committee developed a PR plan

·        Upgrades to playground completed – Grand opening

2003

·        Rendezvous Rotary Club and A-Line Buses help CDC with the purchase of new van

·        Funding secured for new phone system and computers

·        FASD Diagnostic Coordinator hired

 

2004

·        FASD Diagnostic team established and training organized with Glenrose Hospital team

·        November 20, 2004 – 25th anniversary celebration at Gold Rush Inn

·        51 early childhood educators trained through Hanen program

·        Preschool curriculum completed

·        Services provided to 553 children

 

2005

·        Library re-catalogued to Dewy decimal system

·        Received funding to coordinate Autism project

·        Started to hire Supported Childcare Workers through funding from childcare Services Unit

 

2006

·        FASD Diagnostic team extends to school age children

·        Child Development Centre website developed

·        Services provided to 619 children

 

2008

·        Electronic Client Record system adopted

·        Funding received for psychologist position

·        Child Development Centre renovations completed including sensory room (Linda’s room)

 

2009

·        November 27, 2009 – 30th Birthday open house

·        Services provided to 898 children
